How compressed air quality affects pipework condition

Untreated compressed air causes corrosion of pipework components, pressure loss, and contamination, corrosion and increased wear of pneumatic tools.

Untreated compressed air causes corrosion of pipework components, pressure loss, and contamination, corrosion and increased wear of pneumatic tools. At very low temperatures, compressed air pipes may even freeze.

In production, humid air can make processed materials stick together or damage sensitive components in end-use equipment.

A company in the Jihlava area asked us to reduce production stoppages caused by condensate forming in the pipework. Through an analysis of the compressors and distribution system, we found around 12 litres of condensate per shift. We proposed installing a refrigerated air dryer sized for actual air demand and condensate volume. Following installation, maintenance costs immediately fell significantly compressed air distribution while the connected tools and machines became more reliable and lasted longer.
