What problems can pressure analysis reveal?

At a medium-sized aluminium-alloy casting manufacturer, an energy analysis showed that a load/unload compressor combined with a variable-speed compressor was operating very efficiently, with a compressed air generation indicator of CZK 0.439/kWh. A subsequent pressure analysis, however, showed that undersized pipework prevented compressed air from reaching the end-use points in production.

We compared the pressure drop at each workstation with the pressure in the compressor room.

Based on calculations, we proposed a new, adequately sized distribution system to prevent pressure drops and reduce the risk of financial losses from production outages. The proposal also includes a larger air receiver. The existing receiver is insufficient for the overall system but will be used at the 3D measurement workstation, which is particularly sensitive to pressure drops.
