Atlas Copco compressor range VSD+ (short for Variable Speed Drive) are frequency-controlled compressors fitted with an oil-cooled permanent magnet motor. The motor bearings are also oil-lubricated. The screw element is directly coupled to the motor and installed vertically in the compressor.

Overhaul / type D service

An Atlas Copco VSD+ compressor overhaul, or type D service, is recommended after 24,000 operating hours. Because the screw element and motor are mounted vertically, all dismantling and assembly must be performed vertically using a set of special fixtures to avoid damage to the rotor and stator. The prescribed procedures and correct equipment are also essential. Given the complexity of the process, it is advisable to choose a service company with these fixtures, suitable facilities and trained technicians experienced in these repairs.
