How we calculate
Method: The mole fraction of water remains constant as pressure changes: pv₂ = psat(Tdp₁) × p₂/p₁. Inverting the Vaisala relation gives the new dew point and atmospheric dew point. Below 0 °C, we calculate the frost point over ice.
Assumptions and limitations: Valid for an ideal gas without added water and before condensation. Does not include entrained liquid water or local cold spots. A negative dew point in this tool means a frost point; check the instrument's convention.
Method references- Vaisala: Humidity Conversion Formulas B210973-F, equation 6 and table 1 – saturated vapour pressure over water and ice.
Method version 1.0. Standard references verified in the ISO catalogue; the physical balances are not calculations prescribed by ISO. Before final design, we will verify actual operating and catalogue data.
