What does an air leak cost?

Quantify air, energy and money lost through leaks. Measured flow is the best input.

Your inputs

Example data – these are not your operating figures. Adjust them before calculating.

How we calculate

Method: Known flow: volume = flow × 60 × hours. Hole: isentropic discharge of an ideal gas to the atmosphere, γ = 1.4; critical pressure ratio 0.5283. Below the critical ratio, flow is choked. Mass flow is converted to 1.01325 bar abs and 20 °C. Energy = volume × specific energy consumption.

Assumptions and limitations: A hole calculation provides only an indicative estimate, not a measurement. Pressure and flow remain constant over the entered hours. Simple annual balance excluding VAT, discounting, financing and price increases. This is not an energy audit under ISO 11011.
