New Atlas Copco models in the GA VSD+ range
In the second half of 2016, established compressor manufacturer Atlas Copco expanded its VSD+ variable-speed compressor range to cover power ratings up to 75 kW.

As with the lower-powered models in this range, the screw element is driven by a permanent-magnet motor, bringing several benefits. Oil cooling of the motor is optimised even for minimum speeds; lower temperatures extend motor life, and the motor is quieter than a conventional induction motor. The motor and element are directly coupled, eliminating belt-slip losses, while the vertical arrangement reduces axial loads on the bearings.
VSD+ in figures:
– on average, 8% lower specific energy requirement (SER) than current GA VSD models
– on average, 50% lower energy consumption than current models with unloaded running
– up to 8% higher output than GA VSD compressors
